The Sonic Reference

Since 1978, Genelec has developed high quality studio monitors and active speaker systems. Over the years, and based on customer requirements, Genelec’s R&D team’s technical ambition has led to several innovative technologies and revolutionary designs, refining every product, and setting the benchmark across the industry. Maintaining a wide product offering has presented Genelec with challenges, but ultimately, a wealth of experience. Every Genelec customer benefits from this experience by having precision tools to rely on.

Today, HHB is the UK’s largest supplier of Genelec speakers with two fully equipped demo rooms and a complete stock of the entire range, from the compact 8000 Series through the flagship 1236A.

Genelec speakers are the industry standard reference monitor delivering consistent performance across a range of applications, including post production, broadcast, A/V installation and music recording. In addition to supplying Genelec speakers, HHB also offers professional room calibration services to ensure consistent reference monitoring throughout the facility.

Classic Studio Monitors and Subwoofers

A reference point for audio professionals the world over, the active monitors and subwoofers of the Genelec Classic Series remain the chosen solution of many of the world’s most demanding studios.

Every Classic Series monitor is engineered to deliver an uncompromisingly flat frequency response, from the elimination of diffractions and control of the sound directivity courtesy of the Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™), to the optimised flow of the reflex tube design. Meanwhile, at the low end, Genelec’s Classic subwoofers are constructed around the Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE™) principle, resulting in articulate and dynamic low frequency reproduction.

Within the Classic range are Genelec’s world-renowned, two-way, 8000 Series monitors, each housed in a Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE™). This advanced die-cast aluminium design is built for performance – its sturdy, vibration-free structure ensures diffraction-free sound reproduction even at highest output levels. Similarly, the two way models of the M Series benefit from Genelec’s Natural Composite Enclosure (NCE™), using an injection-mouldable wood material for outstanding acoustic damping and rigidity, all while maintaining the highest standards of environmental awareness.

Other features include dedicated amplifiers for each driver, manual room response control to help compensate for acoustic influences, and on-board overload protection. The result of decades of refinement, the Genelec Classic Series models are the tools to which audio experts turn for truly reliable monitoring.

The Ones and Coaxial SAM™ Studio Monitors

Traditional loudspeakers have displaced drivers that generate crossover colouration off-axis – forcing a critical listener to sit at a specific spot, not moving the head. A point source monitor has therefore long been regarded the holy grail of loudspeaker design. However, if not properly designed, point source came with disadvantages; for instance limited frequency range, low SPL, uneven dispersion or discontinuities causing distortion, to name a few.

The Ones are uncompromised 3-way point source monitors that not only promote faster and more consistent production decision making, but also longer listening time than a traditional loudspeaker, because unnatural imaging, a main contributor to listener fatigue, is minimized. Dispersion is controlled over an unusually wide frequency range thanks to the large integrated waveguide and the hidden dual woofer design.

Because loudspeakers change spectral balance depending on placement in a room, they should be calibrated after positioning. To do so, just connect a Mac or a PC running Genelec’s GLM application to any of these advanced SAM monitors. GLM contains an expert algorithm, built on decades’ worth of data, and facilitates true reference listening under previously intolerable conditions.

For all applications calling for precision imaging, extended frequency response, short to medium listening distance or long, fatigue-free working hours, these compact three-way monitors are in an elite league of their own.

SAM™ Studio Monitors and Subwoofers

Designed to adapt, Genelec’s Smart Active Monitor (SAM™) Compact range draws on a suite of technologies to make the most of all modern acoustic environments. As studio space becomes limited and listening areas more confined, so recordings are taking place in a wider variety of locations, many with minimal acoustic treatment. The Smart monitors and Smart subwoofers of the Compact Series are designed to adapt and assist.

Controlled by the proprietary Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM™) software, SAM Compact systems use ground-breaking AutoCal™ to create an optimised and controlled monitoring environment. After automatic calibration, monitoring set-ups ranging from simple stereo to immersive audio will perform with the consistency upon which you rely, compensating for deficiencies in the listening environment.
