SAE Institutes’ London Bankstock Studios, with the support of HHB Communications, has upgraded Studio 14. SAE provides creative media programs to students around the world and Bankstock Studios is no different. This particular location offers 9 studios packed with amazing technology that enables students to learn on leading professional audio equipment. Studio 14 has a particular focus for teaching post-production workflows. The addition of the Avid S4 console, released in 2019, continues the school’s policy of investing in the latest technology.
Originally equipped with a D-Control, Pro Tools HD I/O and X-Mon, Studio 14 now houses an Avid S4 Console in a five-foot frame with two 8-fader channel and centre sections. In addition, SAE decided to upgrade the audio interfacing to an Avid MTRX. This upgrade offers students the ability to work on a console that will closely match what they will encounter in the professional world.
“Our D-Control served us well for many years; but the time came when we needed to update our post-production studio to the right equipment” comments Antonio De Robertis, Audio and Music Business Programme Manager at SAE. “It is important to invest in new equipment that offers the school industry standard workflows and is easy to update.”
“An S4 is the logical choice for what SAE required. Due to the modular nature of the console the school can choose to expand as needed, for example adding the capability to mix and monitor current and future immersive formats” says Andrew Hingley, Sales Manager at HHB communications. “Another aspect that makes the S4 suitable for any creative institute is that it is a perfect classroom tool for students of music production and post-production. This gives the school an opportunity to use the room for multiple class types rather than just one area of focus.”
HHB Communications, in addition to supplying the new equipment, managed the pre-delivery system build, test and installation. This included setting up the S4 and MTRX along with the school supplied HDX card and computer. Once finished, the HHB team built and commissioned the system on site including testing the 5.1 monitoring connectivity.
“We are very pleased with how quickly the installation process went and that students were able to be back learning in the studio within a day. Working with HHB was a delight and most importantly the students are excited to start using these new tools. We are constantly reviewing of curriculum and facilities, we know the S4 and HHB’s experience will allow us to develop the studio to support immersive sound production” says Antonio.
